The Domain King's® thoughts on domain names, web traffic, increasing web sales, success, life, and plain-old Business & Marketing 101. Nothing happens until a sale is made!
Don't think I ever made 5 posts in one day as I am likely not done. But this one marks #1000 in just a bit under 6 years and over $15,000 comments. That averages just one post every other day and 15-16 comments per post. Not that many when compared to most bloggers. But I think I have had some pretty good mileage and impact for those posts.
No, this was not my first 1000 posts. I made several thousand before blogs even came to be. I have had this daily routine since 1996. Thru Ynot.com, Netpond.com, Oprano.com and then to Ricks Board and finally here.
When you do something, longevity is the key. With time many things can become successful. I hope I have added some ideas and value to your lives. I hope the next 1000 posts culminate with me seeing the finish line of a 20 year plan. When attention spans are generally 20 minutes......I hope I have shown a vivid difference.
So I just want to take a moment to thank my readers and hope to add end users to my audience during the next 1000 posts. I already know you folks are out there. I know it is not in your best interest to speak out. But I assure you I know you are here and I will say to your face what I would say to anyone. That's called transparency. If my domain is not worth $1MM now, please come back when it is. Just don't expect me to talk to you in terms of past valuations. At that point we will be on the road to $2MM.
Those end users that understand sales understand the value of domain names. Those that don't will just carry on as usual and may or may not make their mark.
See you at the 20 year mark!! December 26th 2015 in case you would like to mark that baby on your calendar.
Why I’ll likely never
pay one single cent to Google as an entrepreneur or a consumer (though I’m
happy to as a business owner)
By Danny Welsh
JointVentures.com
I love Google as a
search engine. I use it just about every damn day multiple times per day. It’s
been designed to give the searcher (that’s me) an ability to find the searchee
(that’s whatever I’m looking for). And so far for years of my life it’s been
pretty damn good at providing me something RELEVANT and as a consumer I think
it’s got great value.
But you see, when I
click on a PPC ad and make Google money I’m happy I found a result if it was
relevant, but you’ll never find me (or any other consumer) paying for that
click myself.
The model is too evolved that the advertiser pays, so when
the advertiser offers something of value and pays for that click, if I become a
customer that was a good ROI for them and it worked out just fine for me as a
consumer too.
If I don’t
become a customer, too bad for that advertiser for spending that money on a
click. I’m out the time as a consumer in checking out Google’s “recommendation”
for filling my needs as a searcher, and I’m not mad at Google for it. I just
start over or try to find another way than Google to find what I’m looking for.
Maybe I type in www.whateverIwant.com
and see what’s there. Maybe I phone a friend. Maybe I “search” in the back of
my closet for the YellowPages that is propping up the broken aquarium off the
floor I just haven’t gotten around to taking to the dump yet.
Google Adwords is a
simple, straight forward and a good (but not great) way to get prospects that you can turn into customers.
One of my own long-time business mentors is among the world’s authorities on
Google Adwords advertising with a column in Entrepreneur magazine from time to
time and sold out seminars where folks pay thousands of dollars to learn his
secrets on how to tame the Adwords beast and wring money from it with targeted
clicks.
He kicks ass and I am well aware of how powerful the marketing
medium of Adwords PPC can be, having thoroughly been through a couple of his
courses that sell for thousands of dollars and tested some of his ideas.
The funny part is that as a consultant and copywriter, it’s
unclear whether I’ve paid him more as a customer than he’s paid me for my help
in his businesses.
But I digress, and we’ve wandered off from what is RELEVANT
and sorry for that.
Where was I?
Oh yeah, as a consumer I don’t pay
Google money. You probably don’t either.
Google search, Google Maps, Google Earth, Google Voice. All
free, and all useful. Not one of which has Google put a price tag on to use
(nor will they ever in all likelihood).
What about my other “identities”? Do they pay Google money?
I also love a number of Google’s other intangible online
products and services, especially the suite of custom branded cloud
applications for use in businesses.
Gmail for one totally ROCKS. I’m grateful they let me try it
before I had to buy it. Now all of my companies have and will operate on
Gmail. Simple, clean, elegant, perfectly
functional and ever-improving. I am Danny at TheDannyWelsh.com. I am Danny at
JointVentures.com. I am Danny at FreeVacation.com. I am…yaddadyadda…you get the
idea.
Gmail custom branding email accounts makes that easy and
simple…
GoogleDocs is also a fantastic organization and
collaboration tool.
Google Checkout is a great companion for accepting credit
cards and Paypal. You wouldn’t have it as the only way to accept payments
online for your ecommerce store, but having it does give a bump in sales in
many cases I’ve seen for me and my past clients.
But you see, it’s the “business owner” identity of Danny
Welsh that pays a little money each year to Google to use those very useful
services. Just as that same guy tried a number of other paid services of
Google like Google Pages, Google Sites, and others that just weren’t any good.
The business owner pays Google, not the consumer.
It’s almost like I’m a different person in the same skin.
And frankly, Google has EXCELLED at creating a few must-use
products for small business, just like Gmail and GoogleDocs and
Google-Checkout.
Maybe you even use a few of them in YOUR small business?
You Go Google!
Now we come to the big question of whether it makes business
sense to pay Google for advertising.
Rick Schwartz says
no, and people say “he has an agenda”.
What does Danny Welsh
say?
My answer is YES and
NO.
For me…it depends.
The entrepreneur in me says I don’t need Google (and for years I’ve
done plenty of e-commerce for myself and my clients that had nothing to do with
Google as lead generation…paid OR organic).
FYI if you don’t know the difference between the
entrepreneur that starts the business and CREATES SALES and the business owner
that maintains a system and grows it…go read a book about it!
Cuz they ain’t usually the same type person, though some
GREAT businesses are lucky enough to have leaders that can do BOTH well…most do
NOT, and are better served with a two-headed captain at the helm depending on
the biggest current need for steering the ship.
The entrepreneur in me says I can develop and attract prospects dozens
to hundreds of cheaper ways than Google PPC Advertising and dozens to hundreds
of more certain ways than organically SEO-gaming Google…and use a
superior business, products, and services, as well as how me and my employees
who work for me the business owner treat people…and turn enough of those
prospects into customers to do just fine.
So why bother sticking my business AMEX in Google’s mouth
every month to pay for clicks that put food on their employee’s tables and may
or may not put food on mine?
The entrepreneur in me increasingly says if you can do what
the entrepreneur says he can do (and I can, have, and will continue to do so
for any and all of my business projects)…then why not develop prospects and
bring them in using primarily low cost and no cost marketing initiatives and
use the brand recall alone of the category NICHE.com to bring those customers
back to buy “NICHE” whenever in the future they want to make another purchase?
If so, Google is useful for me as a business owner.
It’s awesome for me as a consumer.
But it’s unnecessary for me as an entrepreneur, the guy who
has to MAKE SALES HAPPEN.
And as a domainer or entrepreneur, either one…well, you
either “see it or you don’t”.
Like Rick Schwartz
says, there are masters and there are slaves.
I choose to be a master.
You can too.
Or just give your money to the golden god and trust your
destiny to Google.
The headline says it all. Probably everyone reading this would be fired from Yahoo! if we were working there. Gee, ya mean when I get up at 5:30AM and do 3 hours of my most productive work, I can't do it any more? You want me less productive? Does my bathrobe threaten you?
I have not even read the reason why and frankly, I don't give a damn my dear. Stupid is stupid and I think this ban will last as long as it takes you to read this crap. I guess she did not work from home during her pregnancy? I guess checking email after 5PM is now a NO-NO!
If you own Yahoo! stock...dump it. I thought this new CEO, Marissa Mayer, would get this company and Brand back on track. I was wrong and this sort of misguided nonsense proves it.
I'm probably going to use terms or say a few things in this post that are wrong.
That's because I personally don't believe it's worth the while for me to invest in foreign language .com domains (whatever domainers call those) or country code extension domains.
Because in MY lifetime there is more opportunity to profit with dot com as an INVESTOR, even though as a speculator there is money to be made down the road with those, and great money to be made TODAY with businesses using those in certain DEFINED instances.
Just nowhere near what's coming with dot com as a quaint 20 year hobby of a few thousand people you may just be learning about TODAY...called 'Domaining'...is transforming by the DAY into a new industry and asset class called eRealEstate.
And so I haven't researched those foreign language dot com or country code domain name topics in the depth I've researched the brand of dot com, which I personally believe is probably the most mind-branded concept in the history of mankind (that doesn't have a theology attached to it anyway).
That's right folks, the history of big ideas that WON over other ideas in the evolution of our species goes like this:
Of course I left out a few steps and I'm sure if one of my HS history teachers or college history professors would be quite upset at my incomplete essay and the fact that some might be in the wrong order...but fact is I ain't writing a meticulously researched treatise on the history of history to get an 'A'...I'm letting you know I've seen the future and its because a guy named Rick Schwartz saw it first and pointed it out to me.
Just as he's been pointing it out to people selflessly (and selfishly too...yes he has an agenda, and that agenda is becoming richer each time he helps someone else become richer too).
Tirelessly pointing it out for close to 20 years, and getting A after A with just a few Bs and Cs...for a guy that I don't think ever really cared too much about formal education, college etc its almost amazing how prescient many of his predictions have turned out to be about eRealEstate.
And I am starting to understand how he's so puzzled when so many other people choose to disagree with him and keep getting an F why they wouldn't just ask for his help and look at his cheat sheet of notes he's been maintaining for decades in journals just like this one here on RicksBlog.com.
I'm not saying there isn't opportunity in other places of the domain name universe for investors. There is...I'm just puzzled why anyone as educated as the long-time readers of this entire blog would bother, especially viewed in light of the fact that the newest viewers of this blog are entrepreneurs and business leaders first and domainers second....they each have ONE 'big idea' they want to turn into a business (startup) or to use to propel a business further (established company).
There is so much opportunity in .com, why bother with anything smaller that has been proven less valuable and will increasingly be proven so?
The future dollars of dot com is eRealEstate, not Domaining.
It's just not yet proven.
Give it 3 years and you'll kick yourself if you don't stop complaining today that all the good .com domains are taken...and start realizing ALL the great .coms available then WERE TAKEN 20 years ago.
Some others evolved with changes in culture, technology, human nature, products etc...
They were taken for a reason folks.
They ain't coming back.
And no equal alternative is possible in this lifetime, though THOUSANDS of www.domain.craps die will be cast hoping for Daddy's Lucky #7.
As Sergeant Bilko said it best when asked 'Sir, is there anything else we can do for you?' by the hotel concierge after he threw several winning Craps tosses in the row:
'Yes, go down to your vault and tell the rest of your money to be patient...we'll be together soon.'
Dot com is the new global eRealEstate, and almost anything a man or company or business can do to make money with physical real estate, he can do BETTER with eRealEstate.
Rick Schwartz predicted it on the day he registered eRealEstate.com on November 4th 1996 and all these years later people still look him up, chase him down, follow the yellow-brick road from a property he owns that they wanted to buy (so they could build on), and knock on his virtual VAULT front door at RicksBlog.com and say 'Rick, you're wrong!'
And he steps out from around stacks of cash and gold bars and virtually looks at them and says-- a little brusquely maybe at times-- when they step back off his front porch and he can get a good look at them:
'Who are you? What do you want?'
And when they say 'I want to buy your land you're not building on.'
He laughs and tells them he's been expecting them, asks them what they want to do with the land and closes the door.
They read that brusque email from this guy they find out calls himself the 'Domain King' and sometimes they think he wants to steal their 'idea' (never realizing in many cases HE had their big idea...or one close to it...17-20 years before when he registered the idea's best possible name on the Internet), many times going away to work harder and not smarter because of their irrational fear.
And when they reply to the email and come back and knock again with their reason why they can only pay $$$ couched as an objection that they don't believe what they're trying UNSOLICITED to buy ain't worth what he says it is, he laughs again.
Then replies to their challenges, questions and counters all in English words, and they do the same...even when a growing percentage of them are from dozens of other countries than US, UK or Australia...(hint), and maybe he says something like this:
'My WORD.com land isn't for sale at any cash only price you'll want to pay, but you can use it and buy it down the road when your business can afford to pay an amount that's fair out of the increased profits I'm confident you'll make for the same reason I knew you'd show up here knocking, knocking at my virtual vault door.'
And for 17 years most of these would-be land buyers would shake their head at the IDEA to build something on land they didn't yet own, and walk away to work harder and not smarter.
Today it's changed.
We get it Rick.
The lessee can own the shop and sell to all the foot traffic while you own the retail space.
The lessee can build, own and operate the office skyscraper starting with one floor at a time going up...while you own the land underneath.
The lessee can build the business of their dreams and own it...and you simply provide the foundation you'll give up as soon as they're ready to be their own eLandlord and buy you out so in time the successful ones own both the land AND always from day one own what's built ON it, with never a worry that it would be 'stolen'...no more than a landowner can or would steal a shopping mall or a skyscraper so long as the business owner leasing the land pays as agreed to use it.
99 year land lease?
It's happened before. And anyone can look it up. Maybe they should read about who owns the land underneath Irvine, CA or many other cities where one family was smart enough to buy up all the land and make great deals for anyone to build.
One parallels another, history will repeat itself...only this one will happen faster.
And one day the currently offered 30 year domain lease deals and the 5 year lease to own deals offered to the fast movers in the next couple years as this new market gains worldwide acceptance will simply be GONE.
And your only options at THAT time to get the dot com domain name you want and need will be a 99 year lease or a piece of your company. It's dot com and its eRealEstate.
And it's here to stay.
And you can get your piece of the Internet Dream for your start-up company for nothing more than $3000 as a set up deposit and start paying monthly on the lease deal.
Or your more established company can put 12 payments down on a non-refundable purchase option deposit plus $3000 security deposit and start paying monthly on the lease purchase deal to FULLY CONTROL your eRealEstate land and build as you wish to sell more of your products to a global marketplace of customers...starting with those knocking on your door every day.
Hell, you can even rent eRealEstate on a month to month basis with a fair and much higher security deposit (so the owner knows you won't ruin his/her property) and no long-term commitment...simply because you agree with us that a vanity domain name will convert prospects to leads BETTER from direct response advertising such as TV commercials, magazine ads, and billboards. Don't believe us? Rent and test...you'll convince yourself to buy or lease with an option to purchase that GREAT domain name you are/were looking at before knocking much better than we could ever do it.
Just ask yourself how you found yourself here reading this?
You followed the Yellow Brick Road of powerful attraction. In most cases, no one marketed to you to come here, did they?
That's how your customers will find YOUR great domain name once you grab it from your competition.
And then that's how they'll find YOUR great business...in ways they aren't yet now.
It's YOUR job to turn them into customers, though.
If you can. If you can't, and of you hesitate to lease the property you've been eyeing, we're happy to wait til your competitor makes us a better offer.
Happy to wait all DECADE doing what you feel is 'nothing' (but that makes us effortless income) on 80% of the properties, if the 20% include doing deals with companies that have vision and money both (or one or the other is often fine too).
Want some examples of really bad locations? Confusing locations? Cute but confusing and so they are nothing at all? Just a little of what is to come. Who you will share the stage with. Who will make the smart guys a ton of money. You can't make this stuff up and I am sure a few will stroll in here and tell me this or that. Let me start slapping my knee right now before they even speak.
They don't pass the radio test. They fail the radio test. They don't pass the word of mouth test. They fail that one as well. The ONLY test they pass is the one that creates a 'State of confusion.'
Hey it's the weekend. Maybe I will uncover a hornets nest of domainers that think this is the way. This is the future. All I can say to them, be on time Monday morning.
These guys have the right arguments, just armed with the wrong names. That means they will always work harder for less.
JesusSav.es and InGodWeTru.st are Among the Hot New Domain Names Now Being Offered Exclusively at WeFollowJesus.org
If you don't always want to be complaining that you missed this and you missed that, maybe it is time to be EARLY this time around. Your choice. You can be late again if you CHOOSE!

Dot com
To be the BIG IDEA you must BEST the big idea. Not simply alter it. Not simply copy it and call it better or the same. Not simply compete with it, though you can surely compete and make money or gain users/adopters...you cannot play small and WIN when you are up against the BIG IDEA.
A cellphone is still a telephone. Internet radio is still a radio. Communism though it still exists FAILED. So did Reebok if its desire was to become THE athletic shoes.
Google.com is built on dot com. Domain.net and all the others are imitations until and unless any one of them can be a BETTER idea in the mind of the masses than dot com, they are all playing for first loser.
English became a better alternative than Latin, why? America became more influential than the British Empire, why? Capitalism was a more perfect IDEA in the timing of history than the Soviet Communism...why?
Not to get all geopolitical on everyone and reveal my ignorance of current events that may stem from not owning a televisions...but let me flex my brain of what I DO see in the news and from my background with a degree in Political Science: China's growth is a threat to America the nation but not America the IDEA which is made up of other ideas on that list...why will China never rule the world even if and when they try?
And even if and when another English speaking representative government that's capitalist were to take the place of America in the role of world peacekeeper, why am I supremely unconcerned that one Sunday in the future my children's children's children will wake up dressing in Chinese-style clothing, driving a Chinese government-created car to a Chinese temple, praying to some non Christian, non-Jewish, non-Muslim god in one of the hundreds Chinese dialects as a first language, before returning home to their Commune apartment?
Because 97% of the IDEAS that would have to become real for that reality to happen have yet to happen...and most never will because they've already been proven less desirable to the common man on the street in ANY country.
Which is why no matter where you go they strive to speak English as a second language, wear Nike, drink Coca-Cola, and enjoy McDonald's (even if the menu is different than what we in America would recognize).
Why does 'China' never scare me? It's an IDEA made up of some good ideas (gold) mixed with some bad ideas (shit) that together persuades many its own people that they'd prefer to just live the American Dream.
Or did I give you the answer already why China will look more and more like an ally and not an enemy as time goes on and their very people bend to superior ideas their government simply can't keep them for learning forever? Think hard now...I promise you'll get it how this all applies to domain names if you don't look to your television for answers.
The answers to the future aren't in today at all (and never have been).
They're in the past and in human nature, and predicting how things SHOULD unfold is half art and half science and even though I have that BA in government I won't BS you and say 'this must happen'.
But from where I'm sitting if you want to become richer, any bet on China/India or Chinese/Indian or Domain/IDN in a business MAY earn more speculative growth in the next few years than English, America, dot com...
But hey, they have a lot of catching up to do. Have they even fully realized completion of the INDUSTRIALIZATION 'big idea' yet!? Stop...go back to my brief and not perfectly in order list of what I cheekily called 'A history of ideas that WON' and YOU TELL ME why I should be afraid of the Chinese people taking their place at the rightful table to discuss capitalism and representative government? Lol I'm getting too deep for a domainer blog, aren't I?
If you can't ask the tough questions, you deserve what lazy thinking gets you. A great idea is never one man's!
It may have a spokesperson or an inventor or a revolutionary or a champion but the power of great ideas come from a movement, a market, pressure and time and circulation.
Look at dot com thru the lens of history and human nature and you'll realize today what most of 'the 500' realized 20 years ago.
There is 'dot com' and then there is everything else.
Sorry folks, Godaddy running that YourBigIdea.co commercial is not being completely truthful with you and spending millions to do it on that idiot box you plop down in front of just trying to relax at the end of a long day...never realizing that if you take their .co 'Your Big Idea' commercial at face value and buy a .co lottery ticket, trusting their very convincing commercial as you believe somehow you won't have to wait 20 years to have a chance to be in that jet as discussed here: [LINK]
Buy Domain.co and the registrar Wins, You on the other hand will have TWO possible paths:
1. Succeed in your online business, feel like you win as your business takes off built on a foundation of sand, until You lose when finally one day in the future you realize you needed Domain.com when it was available that one day back then for lease/JV and now you have to pay even more for it.
2. Fail in your business
What about a Chinese .cn domain?
Buy Domain.cn and the registrar Wins, You on the other hand will have THREE possible paths:
1. Succeed in your online business selling only within China, feel like you win as your business takes off built on a good but not great foundation of bamboo, be happy with that medium-level success as your local country-area customers are quite satisfied to do business with the Domain.CN they alone in the world recognize and trust. Maybe one day your children will want Domain.com so they can expand the business you built to become GLOBAL.
2. Succeed in your online business selling at first only within China, feel like you win as your business takes off built on a good but not great foundation of bamboo, are UNhappy with that medium-level success as your local country-area customers are the ONLY customers in the world satisfied to do business with the Domain.CN they alone in the world recognize and trust. Maybe one day you wake up wishing you had secured Domain.COM as your global brand so you can expand... You lose when on that day in the future you realize you needed what you could have gotten fairly in a lease/JV and now you have to pay even more for it.
3. Fail in your business
Buy .co and you take business advice on the most important decision for selling products online from a television commercial.
Buy .cn and you can be quite successful selling products online in China where their ideas are mostky still 100 years behind what their own people know are superior ideas...and despite your regional success, you'll almost certainly never have a global IDEA or business in THIS LIFETIME.
Trust a Commercial? Trust Communism?
Shoulda read a book instead!
Here's one for you:
'Influence: Science and Practice'
Dr. Cialdini's book doesn't mention domain names that I recall and the book may have even been written before such existed. But the book explains human nature in ways that is scary.
Eyeball sees or ear hears '.com'
Click....whirr
Brain immediately processes and trusts.
Eyeball sees or ear hears '.crap'
Click....whirr
Brain tries to process, can't help comparing to '.com', suspects something is maybe not right (with the possible exception of a few exceptions that have been covered in other posts right here on this blog)
Just two men's opinion, folks.
Sometimes Rick's right.
Sometimes Danny's wrong.
But even when the one is wrong...the other could have been right.
And right now WE are telling you...history has proven, is proving, and increasingly will prove most (but not all) of Rick Schwartz's predictions correct as it pertains to the decline of Domaining and the rise of eRealEstate spearheaded by Danny Welsh with his mentor and partner's advice and help.
So if you loved Domaining, its time to leave all the hopes for a second coming behind, cash out of all the pipe dreams (take a loss if you have to like Rick did with flowers.mobi) and invest MOST of your dollars in dot com before dollars alone are simply no longer enough to buy ANY eRealEstate that doesn't include equity from the END USER company burning with desire to buy it.
If you're reading this blog in 2013, you still have a chance to squirrel away a few choice dot com nuts that one day someone will come along and offer you more DOLLARS than most people would consider a lifetime's pay for ONE dea in THIS LIFETIME.
Your call, I think it'll 67% pay off big for your kids as a speculative investment today in 2013. (Hint)
But it's 'small ball' folks, when the game everyone whines is 'over' is simply at the 7th inning stretch.
.com is about to hit a grand slam AND pitch an almost no-hitter in the next 3 years.
You think you've seen a secondary market for dot com now? Ha! Wait til the $25,000,000 cash deals and for others besides Rick Schwartz to lease a domain for more than $1,000,000 per year.
Those kinds of deals are coming.
And it will open the floodgates of the possible, and send a message loud and clear 'they' won't be able to ignore.
The question is..knowing that future predicted right here by these two men, will you ignore what you can do TODAY to prepare your business to profit and your family to prosper?
The Great Gratz taught me a Few things. Never cross the street unless there is a reason to do so. The difference between leaders and assholes. Think big and move mountains! So what exactly does the latter mean?
It means think BIG. Dream BIG. Do BIG things. Don't think small.
So let me give you an example of a mountain I moved right before your very eyes. Maybe it moved so slowly you did not see it. Maybe it moved so fast that you missed it.
This mountain mover started with one slogan. 'This GREAT Domain Name May be Available for Joint Ventures or Lease. Click here to inquire.' It started on a handful of my domains and has spread to all my domains. And then the domains of others. And the domains of PPC companies.
So what started out as an experiment on a few of my domains now has the exact or similar wording on many thousands if not MILLIONS of domain names. They added one word or thought. They added LEASE or RENT to the mix. That my friends is just the first mountain we HAD to move to PREPARE for all the other mountains that come after.
Each is a mountain. These are big things and as I write about it many times I will keep telling you about the stages we must do FIRST before all else. There are things and there are things in a proper order. To move a mountain, it is an Olympic type event. If you want to succeed you need to prepare. Preparing usually takes a LOT longer than the actual goal or the actual hunt. Olympians prepare for years for a 50 yard sprint. A race lasting seconds and they prepare for YEARS!! WHY??? Because they want to succeed!
For the clueless that have hidden agendas, feel threatened somehow and want results yesterday. Let me show you what kind of fools we are dealing with. Imagine we are at a Marina and we are gathering our gear for a 3 month expedition looking for some great whale of a catch. The prep takes the most time. But these fools are jumping up and down when we are still at the marina looking for the whale. Geez. Grow up. You expect that from a 3 year old. Are you insulted. GREAT! Take a hike! I don't force you to come here. I write for myself and those that are interested and are constructive. PERIOD! Plus those to come down the road so they know the REAL story!
So we will do this the way WE see fit and let me spell it out for all to see. All the mountains and all the statges as far as what we expect and when we expect it.
Mountain #1.......Domainers need to see the wisdom and extra money leasing can bring. DONE!
Mountain #2.......Bring to market the very best leaseable domains and work from JointVentures.com. DONE!
Mountain #3......Setup a 12 man sales force that will help us. IN PROCESS (Deadline March 1)
Mountain #4......Setup an EFFECTIVE custom and individual Pitch Page for each and every one of the domains we represent. IN PROCESS. Will unveil some samples soon.
Mountain #5......Arrive in Las Vegas with at least 5-10 deals in hand.
Mountain #6.......By December 31st have at least 1 deal per week happening.
Mountain #7.......Go to our clients and tall them about the fight Danny and I had about the exclusive TERM. Danny wanted an exclusive for 2 years. I said no domainer would do that deal. I said 6 months. He said that would not be enough time to do what it would take. I said I will make you a deal. Let's do 1 year and I promise when I can go back to our clients on December 31st and demonstrate the progress we have made and the mountains we have moved, that 90% or more would stay on board with us. When they see a deal a week. That works because the next stop is 2 deals a week. Then 3. Then 4. Then 1 per day. When we reach 1 per day and there are 255 working days in a year for 9-5ers, everyone will know this game is BIG and the mountain has been MOVED!
But each step takes time to do it RIGHT if you want a success! Any MORON can try and do it FAST and fail! Failing is easy. Inside each mountain are hills with peaks and valleys. There is a path to follow and our job is to follow that path. A path I have been waiting to embark on for 17 years. Waiting for the EXACT right moment.
So if you are tired of hearing about this and what we are going to do to transform what we all do, then I am sorry. This is what I choose to write about and you can choose to ignore every word. I understand completely.
We have a mission!
What Danny and I are doing is good for me and it just happens to translate well to many others.
Moving mountains is not an easy thing to achieve. But when done in order and done right and done methodically and done in a deliberate way by 2 of the most passionate people you will likely ever see with a record of successes and assembling a sales team of like minded folks.....it will bring demonstrable results along the way.
Plus we have added nearly total transparency like no other company. Who does that? We don't have to do it. We choose that path because to be a win-win it has to work that way. Our motives are crystal clear. The benefits are crystal clear. Domainers win big. End users win big.
Need, want, desire, meet problem with a solution that equals more profits and accelerating growth.
So we are still in the marina collecting our gear and preparing. TRAFFIC is when we come back to port. We won't come empty handed and we won't have to invent stuff to save face. I can already give you a list of ACTIVE Joint Ventures. But that was not Danny's plan and I kind of screwed him up. Had this been pulled off the way he wanted and expected with just my domain names, he would have stolen the show.
But guess what? We won't come back empty handed and we will steal the show.
Just like leasing was the big topic out west a few weeks ago. It came up at panel after panel. WHY?? I planned it that way. Really. I'll tell that story some day in the future and can prove what I say. That was like a fun mini-mountain type experiment just for shits and giggles. Mostly for Danny's consumption. Just to prove something about marketing and TIMING! TIMING! TIMING! Lightng a fuse and knowing EXACTLY when and HOW it will go off. I just LOVE when a PLAN comes together!! (Thanks A-Team!)
Leasing has made folks think and many see what we see. Why? Because we moved the mountain. We moved the needle. We changed the conversation. We changed the direction and most importantly, we changed the attitude from one of fear and doubt to one of optimism and excitement. Like maybe there is hope that you can regain control of what we all do.
So think big or think small. But you can't move mountains playing small ball.
I imagine the folks with less than stellar portfolios that now have an opportunity to basically own 5% of Rings.com. Do 20 deals like that and it is like owning a domain like rings.com. Look at things differently. DARE to try! Is it that uncomfortable to look at success right in the face?
So yesterday my 65 year old Hungarian Immigrant Air Conditioner guy is working on one of my units. He asked me what I did. I said I make my living on the Internet. Asked more info. Told him I invested in Domain Names. He then tells me he owns 271. Really I ask?
He says he never got any traffic from his company name. So what he did was register 271 domain names. acrepairZIPCODE.com and uses the local zip codes or city names. And that is just how one guy in a service business takes advantage of generic domains to drive traffic to his site to make his phone ring and keep new business coming in. DUH! DUH! DUH!
So please somebody explain to me why well educated men and women that have fancy titles in corp America and Madison Ave. can't seem to get their head around what my a/c repairman can figure out? When the man on the street gets it, those folks that are really smart can't be THAT far behind. Can they?
As a side-note I own ACRepair.com and that shows shows the value one domain can have. This to me is the PERFECT example of a yellow page category killer domain name that has many uses to many people.
If I had no other domain in the world to focus on, I am sure I could make my fortune just as easy doing this one thing full time. But instead, I will find a partner that will do it for both of us.
Have a GREAT Day!
Rick Schwartz
PS: ACRepair.com will be leased by December 31 of this year. This is such a no brainer. ACRepair is a huge, worldwide industry with an average residential ticket of $250-$4500 or more and commercially of course much higher. You mean to tell me I can't find ONE PERSON on the planet that can not see that opportunity? I INSIST I can and WILL! But my job is not find one, it is to find the BEST one!
Here's how you use Google. Look up ac repair and look at all the paid listings. DUH!!!!!
We want to pay you a bunch of money for very little effort.
Maybe as much as stated in the catchy title of the blog post
you just scanned, depending on a few variables. That might only be ONE joint
ventures deal we do together.
And we only want you to send ONE email to earn the
up-front money, the monthly money, and any back-end bonus money.
What's the
'catch'?
We need to reach someone with a personal email that has an
important marketing message from us they’ll probably be very interested to hear
from you FIRST (before their competition), someone you may have in your Rolodex
that we maybe don't have in ours.
What is our message we'd like you to pass along if you have
a personal relationship and personal email address with the type of person we
want to reach?
Simply copy this:
<<<
The 'Million Dollar Domain
Name' _________.com is available for sale, lease or joint ventures for a
limited time-- until your company or another signs a deal to get it. Knowing your
business is in ________ and there is
only one __________.com, naturally I thought you'd want to hear about this
unique opportunity for a competitive advantage in your industry category ASAP.
I have cc'd Rick Schwartz to
this email message who invites you to read over the offer proposal at
JointVentures.com and make him an offer to get this premium domain to use for
your company. Best of luck!
>>>
Pretty simple, right?
Who do we want you to send that message to and CC Rick
Schwartz as your only responsibility to earn big referral money if and when I
work a deal with your referral client to buy, lease or JV develop the
'Million Dollar Domain Name' of their interest?
Easy!
Anyone you personally
know who'd be ECSTATIC to hear that theirs could be the one and only company to
get their hands on any of the domains listed at the link below and priced on
the “Featured Domains” tab of JointVentures.com...
...And is to your
knowledge financially QUALIFIED to make a serious offer.
…And is to your
knowledge a decision-maker for that business on an executive level, preferably
marketing or chief executive only.
Got it?
Our company values
each of these 'Internet real estate property'
domain names at $100,000 up to $x,000,000.
And we'll offer them for lease or lease to own starting with
an affordable monthly fee to the RIGHT company.
If the deal for you ended up being 10% as good as the catchy
example in our blog post title today...or $500 cash plus 5% of $500/mo for 5
years then 5% of $500,000...would it still be a “great day at the
office” for you sending that ONE email?
Of course. Do the math. The only difference is the value of
the domain in question. In the world of premium 'internet real
estate' Property.com for instance is more valuable than DERIVATIVES like
IncomeProperty.com or UKProperty.com and sometimes by a geometric multiple.
Same would go for RealEstate.com (not ours) being far more valuable vs
RealEstateForSale.com by 50x or more.
But again, we'll pay you $500 cash, 5% of the up front cash
in any lease deposit, 5% of the monthly payment if a property domain is
'leased' to your contact and a 5% back-end bonus of any sale -- no matter how big.
One of Danny Welsh’s long-time connector contacts in real
estate that simply knew very little about the domain name space listened to
what we were doing and asked him: “Is this legit?”
Danny responded: “Yes. Property.com sold for $4,000,000 in
2011 just to use ONE related example. And still makes money every month. How
would you have liked to get 5% of that up-front cash, monthly cash and a possible
back-end bonus cash and/or revenue stream just for having sent an email to
bring together buyer and seller? You missed out on that one. You can read about
more big-ticket 'Internet real estate' deals here: http://www.dnjournal.com/ytd-sales-charts.htm.
You missed those too, and so did I. But
I ain't missing any more!”
Needless to say, that mover and shaker is already creating a
pipeline of “protected contacts” one email to a CMO or CEO at a time, and we
think their first completed deal we do FOR them will be very soon.
Now, you can get in on these kinds of deals like we've been
doing using an innovative but SIMPLE method Danny Welsh created for high-level
personal WIN-WIN joint ventures referrals.
Don't hesitate.
If a name of someone you know in a decision-making role
popped in your head when reading those premium domain names on our 2013 list of
properties represented, email that person the simple offer copied from above
and CC me NOW to lock in your commissions if we do a deal with them.
Interested to get an
easy check for sending one email? How about 12 checks a year for years?
All you need to do is
take a look at our 2013 listings, and get in touch with us and them too if
someone in your Rolodex would be thrilled for the opportunity to hear that
PRODUCT.com is available affordably as a lease to their company selling
products.
No daisy chain. No NCND. No BS.
Most of you have been on my blog reading or email list for
years. Many of you have done business with me in various ways, TRAFFIC
conference or auction or other.
I've added value to you
with tips and stuff for years as I want
always to earn your trust. I don't take that lightly.
If you're
'new' to my blog and haven't heard much from me at all or only a few
times, or you've been here a long time and want to know why I've been
'quiet' the last year or so before a flurry of productive action in
the last 8 weeks, thinking and planning to put this opportunity together
for others is a big part of it.
Just as a quick note: this is NOT about our sales broker program.
. We ARE accepting video applications
from applicants for the 12 available sales broker positions…through the week of
2/25/13, posted as links right there in the comments of the blog titled “Armchair
Quarterbacks Need Not Apply: JointVentures.com Sales Team Now Recruiting Future
MVPs”:
This post today is just about an “informal” referral deal.
Our sub-broker sales program pays the same with a few extra perks and bonuses
for doing multiple deals, but requires an application process and those folks
will get a contract with us, warm lead prospects to follow-up with, protected
properties and they will close deals with a lot more time and effort involved.
This “connector opportunity” is simply a friendly referral
that might pay you $x,xxx-xxx,xxx for little time invested…simply for sending
ONE email to a company decision-maker you may know that we may not, and if it’s
done AS
WE ASK HERE and the company decision-maker responds to the email to
them from you and lets us CC’d know that they are interested/considering a deal
for the domain name…our company will make that company for that domain name a
“protected client referral” for 6 months.
If a deal gets done with that company to lease or buy that domain
name in that 365 day time frame, you get paid as advertised with no other
responsibilities.
The difference between THIS and our sub-broker program for
the JointVentures.com sales team which is now accepting applicants?
A pre-existing RELATIONSHIP must be in place for this
“informal referral deal” and between you and the ONE decision maker you’re
emailing about ONE specific domain name you’re confident that they’d be
interested in if the price were right to lease. Simple, no need for a bunch of
fancy documentation. Just a track record of doing what we say we’ll do, and one email among friends that creates cash
for you (commission), cash for us (lease fee), and cash for your connected
referral (increased sales for their company). WIN-WIN-WIN :)
Let's help you make 2013 your best year ever.
ONE email to the
right person you know that we may not.
We'll do the rest.
And whatever we earn doing that deal with that referral will
be shared with you for as long as we earn it— no matter how much $$ it means
paying out for what amounts to 5 minutes worth of effort on your part...and
having had cultivated the relationship with that decision-maker in the first
place.
If Google is your answer to everything, then you have no answers. Then you are kidding yourself. If your dream is built on Google, you may as well build your dream on a cloud or sand at the ocean.
Now I have stated many times that Google is your LAST resort not your first. This is not a knock on Google. This is illustrating the LAZY end user or domainer that thinks GOOGLE is the KEYWORD that fixes everything answers everything when in fact most get it wrong.
I watch domainers interpreting Google results as their guide to what makes a domain valuable. Ha! They include numbers that don't represent what they think they do. They type in one keyword and get results for many semi related terms. They use Google as a seeing eye dog but without the training needed to accomplish that. Google is the answer all day long. It's no answer at all in my book. It's a crutch to make you look like you know what you are talking about.
End users love affair with Google usually comes crashing down to reality at some point. Likely the point you go out of business.
Depending what good or service you sell you can get so much better results with traditional advertising and other sources of online ads and links and publicity and all the rest. All need to be used together in concert. But Google should be the last one you call after you get all others in place.
Look, there are several approaches. Some are longer term and more of a business type business. Others are businesses set up as pages to earn revenue and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't but few are here for the long term.
So my comments are ALWAYS aimed at those with real and long term type businesses. Always will be. The best way to make anything fly and get off the ground is with a good plan and the best available materials. Google is the keyword that should be deleted from the vocabulary of many. Google has its place, just some don't know exactly what that place is.
