Morning Folks!!
Phone bid registrations are pouring in as the deadline closes in. SameAsCash.com leads in registrations as of last night. I think the final number will show 60% of the lots will have phone bidders. Of those most have multiple bidders registered. Last year 15% were phone bidders.
We will sort through the final numbers tonight and I think folks are going to be pleasantly surprised with the outcome on Monday afternoon. This auction will be a real test of the market no matter the outcome. Those that know me know that the market is smarter than I will ever be and I will always take the verdict of the market over all the chatter and noise. It's a barometer of where we are and that barometer has value in the future as well.
That's if for now. If I get any surprising numbers, I will advise!

SameasCash is a great domain! Would be nice if DonateCash has multiple bidders ;) Best wishes to all of the buyers and sellers!

Lots of domains are going to be”Sold” at the auction…BUT at very low prices!
Great for the buyer…
Great for the seller who just wants to cash out…
Great for the auction…
BAD for domainers who will soon realize the value of domains are declining…
Values of domains are going to go down with huge supply of new gTLDs…
Dot com will remain king, but value will still go down…
Don’t debate this now, come back and debate me after the auction is over…
Good Luck to ALL

Anunt, how are a bunch of worthless tlds going to reduce the value of established extensions? If anything, values will increase IMO.
The masses shun extensions like .biz, .info, .us…I highly doubt that the new”dots” will have mass appeal. Only time will tell.
Stu Holly
Anunt,
tlds will go the same route as .travel , in the rubbish bin.

@ Stu Holly- these .gtlds may not be”roaring” successes, but how many names do you think a gtld needs to make money.
.co revealed they have”renewed” about 1.3 million names. That pales compared to probably 80 million .com (just a guess).
What is the cost to run a gtld?
What is the breakeven for a gtld?
Maybe on a million names they are doing just fine, they certainly have lots of extras they can sell. The internet is in its infancy. Perhaps in 20 years that will be 2 million .co, or 4 million for those that can’t or won’t pay the big bucks for the .com.
Appreciate if anyone can ‘educate’ us here on gtld operating costs and how to make money off those business models.
Stu Holly
BillW,
The new gtld’s are for newcomer’s starting fresh, looking for a nice name in babyland.
Long live the .com, long live Rick’s Blog!

Where can I direct interested parties to pre-bid? Thanks in advance.

Like i said…dot com will remain king, but the value of the dot com domain will go down due to increase amount of supply with the new gTLDs.
Yes, dot com is better than all the new gTLDs…
To understand why the value of dot com will go down, you have to look at this situation thru the average Joe’s eyes…
Dont look at it as a domainer or you will never understand this…
There are less than 5000 domainers, but there are millions and millions of average Joe’s who will determine the outcome.
Average Joe is not out there to make millions thru their website…they just need a domain name to get their business online…and now, they have plenty of domains to choose from…before, they only had few choices and had to purchase the dot com for a high value…not any more…now, they will probably get free domains thru google…google will probably give out free domains with a small catch like you have to pay for hosting or something like that.
Anyways, the average Joe will have plenty of choices now…that is why people like Frank Schilling invested $60 million to be a registry owner and sell average Joes new gTLDs…
The registry owners will make plenty of money while 99% of the people that buy these new domains will not make any money…but the average Joe is not out there to make millions, he just wants a website for his biz…so its a win-win situation for everybody!
Rick says this all the time…
“When you see John Jones thru John Jones eyes, you will sell John Jones what John Jones buys”
When you understand this, you will begin to understand why the value of dot com will go down.
Good Luck to ALL
Show us the money...
You’re right on the crappy sub 2k domain market, but in the clean succinct short .com market they will continue to go up. More and more commerce, bill paying and everything else is occurring online so the bigger the base the higher the pinnacle.
Memorably, .com and focus related and short… is worth increasingly more.
Dave Wrixon
Yes, but the pinnacle will probably be Chinese.
Show us the money...
When you actually know something about the Chinese then you’ll be in a position to actually comment with authority. The Chinese only copy and produce inferior shoddy quality, I should know I deal with their product all the time. They are no threat, they are no Japan in the making thats for sure.
BillW
I think Mr. Wrixon is referring to Chinese .com domains in Mandarin Chinese language.
