This week there has been a lot of talk about some recent research showing that domain traffic converting 2x that of search......to that I say NONSENSE!!
After 12 YEARS they finally figured out domain traffic is better and then everyone swallows THEIR numbers. Are you guys NUTS? Have you lost your minds? Targeted traffic on items that can be sold online and is matched up to a website that can actually close that sale run at the rate of 3X-5X at a MINIMUM.
So just because they finally realize that the numbers are “SURPRISING” does not mean they fully get it. They are underestimating but at LEAST after 12 YEARS they recognized what others recognized over a decade ago. So save your applause until they REALLY get it. But it is a FIRST STEP to understanding the POWER of a domain name with type in traffic. Read more about it at the the blogs below.
Have a GREAT day!

Rick,
Just got to your blog post from Frank’s blog.
I admire what you have achieved with domains. I like that you want to share the information with others. I just wish you had also some blogging skills and your blog posts were more readable. Possibly, backed up with some statistics and examples. Right now it just seem that you are inflating the figures for the domain name favour because that’s your business and you want the domain to raise on price. No offense.

Rick is the”Domain King” there’s a reason for that, he is huge force in the business, he has some of the best domains but more importantly has done more than possibly anyone else to expalin why domains can be so important to businesses, read his post on hotels.com, go to his website and check out what he says about the business, i don’t know the guy personally and i have no biz relationship with him so i’m completely unbiased–this guy knows the biz he’s been way ahead of the curve on domains the fact is corp america still doesnt get it otherwise businesses would be buying these names hand over fist, businesses are spending more on adsense to rent keywords that they could own outright forever at a fraction of the cost—its insane —its crazy that madison avenue is not catching on —-to me this is marketing/advertising/sales related, they should be buying these names in bulk for their clients and if the clients dont get it or dont want them—they should buy the names in as many industries as they can and rent them to their clients, in fact once corp america clues in the wil line up to access these names, jesus for such a self-professed creative group, its truly amazing how closed minded and slow they are to get it –anyway i digress, Rick is the king –when the king of the biz talks i like to listen because i want to learn—this is about sales and making money—-some people are sooo creative they forget that

I’ve got to agree with the first post, Rick stats to back your claims would be great.
3x to 5x as a minimum, really? I love this business but you sound like you’re swimming in the Cool-Aide. If that were really accurate, you wouldn’t be parking your sites for your cut of 1x. Patrick I think you can learn a lot more from Frank Schilling, he’s somewhat analytic and isn’t just shouting on top of a soap box.

Type-in traffic can be track in your web page logs by checking traffic without refer.
Part of this traffic is the type-in traffic received, the other part also contains fake traffic.
Because it’s easier for publishers to send fake traffic without refer. This way its’ more difficult to confound the cheaters.
On my sites that colllect leads when I check the conversion rate of this traffic (without referer) I notice that in fact the conversion rate is strongly LOWER then search engine traffic.
So Is type-in traffic having a worst conversion rate or is fake traffic (without referer) so high that it hides the good quality of type-in traffic?
I will not play the bad boy for the domaining industry, I will say:
I DO NOT KNOW!

Rick please help, these companies just don’t get it. Is there a manual or an idiots guide to understanding the value of direct navigation domain names. aay ya ya..
Is there a document anywhere on the internet that can explain in baby steps whats its all about so they can finally grasp it.. I need assistance to convince a company how valueable direct navigation is. I just find myself explaining over and over.
